Mountain River Estates (MRE) is a special community. Founded and built by families, what started as a dirt road through a treeless pasture and poor grazing land in the late1960’s became the beautiful development you see today. The trees, mature landscaping, paved road, water system and various amenities that make this community unique are the product of decades of community collaboration, care and contribution. MRE's agricultural roots are evidenced by its equestrian facilities. Ongoing production of the hayfield allows for the maintainence of agricultural status with RockyView County. The common lands stretching into the river valley act as a nature preserve adjacent to the homes in this community.

MRE comprises 16 shareholders, each owning a ~2 acre lot and holding equal interest in approximately 289 acres of MRE common land.

MRE Ltd. is an Alberta company. Its primary purpose is to manage the common lands on behalf of the 16 shareholders.  MRE Ltd. is run by the shareholders and has an executive board that is filled by shareholders on a volunteer basis.  Annual budgets are set and approved at the Annual General Meeting.  Each Shareholder pays an annual assessment fee that is ​used towards management duties of the company involving the land, farmhouse, barn, private road, entrance gate and water treatment plant.
